Palazzuolo open street
When shops close their shutters, via Palazzuolo turns into an art gallery. This street, close to Santa Maria Novella square but outside the touristic routes, and for the most part unknown to florentines, transforms as soon as daytime activities stop.
It’s thanks to a project, Palazzuolo open street, winner of the Estate Fiorentina 2023 notice, published by Firenze Municipality.
The shutters of ten different shops have been painted by street artists Clet, Exit Enter, Luchadora, Droste, James Vega, Miles, Mr. G, Kraita317, Nian, Urto and Monograff, who have contributed to give a new light to this street, neglected for so many years, by gifting their art to passersby.
Via Palazzuolo’s history has always been connected to art, being home to many artisans’ shops which, over the years, have mostly closed. The new artistic energy boost, coordinated by Street Levels Gallery, given by these artworks, will certainly contribute to the new life the street residents are looking forward to.

Areas of interest: International gallery of urban art
Street Levels Gallery is an international gallery of urban art, the first of its kind in Florence. The fruit of the encounter between artists and cultural producers, the gallery aims at offering an articulated space able to focus attention on various levels of interaction in art – the street, the public, the exhibition space – in a two-way, dynamic and constantly changing exchange with the urban fabric. With this idea in mind, the staff at Street Levels Gallery created a gallery completely dedicated to artistic experimentation, the exhibition of works and the production of connections, human stories and shared projects. Cultural provocation is generated as a collateral practice with the clear intent of recounting experiences and artistic expressions originating from the street, while both legitimating their existence and attempting to overcome the narrative limits and stereotypes between public and private space and between the street and the exhibition venue. Street Levels Gallery aims to play the crucial role of ‘buffer’ in its commitment to mediating and reconciling different artistic visions with the needs of individuals, public agencies and the community at large. Indeed the gallery boasts a long series of successful collaborative projects with municipal governments, festivals, artistic events, museums, companies, associations, collectives, universities and public and private institutions. The ultimate aim of these initiatives is to spread and promote the urban art movement in Italy and in the world.
