The Quiet Areas of Florence

Green Florence
The districts of Florence

If you feel like disconnecting with the  background noises that don't leave us, sometimes, even at night, then it means you are looking for a quiet area!

A quiet area is not necessarily silent, but rather an area where there are particular kinds of noise such as the flow of water or the chirping of birds, the rustling of leaves, that are generally perceived as pleasant. Collected places where can stop and enjoy the company of a book, sit on a bench, take the dog out and relax a little.

The European Union requires for the member states to draw up Strategic Noise Mapping and Action Plans every five years.

For now, five areas have been identified (see below for details) but more will soon be added, also in anticipation of the update of the Noise Remediation Plan. Other quiet areas in a number of parks will also be added to this list during 2023: of Mensola (Coverciano area), the Area Pettini Burresi (Cure area) and Anconella (south Florence).

Parco di Rusciano

Located in Gavinana's District 3, Parco di Rusciano ( Rusciano Park ) is a secluded green space accessible through a barely visible gate on Via di Ripoli. Despite its ancient origin and illustrious past, it has always remained on the fringe of the main streams, maintaining an aura of privacy that almost borders on oblivion.

Orti del Parnaso

If you are looking for a free park from which you can enjoy a wonderful view of Florence then the Orti del Parnaso are the answer to your desire. The Orti del Parnaso also called Giardino del Dragone owes its lofty name to the sculpture of a snake or indeed a dragon completed in 1990 to a design by Marco Dezzi Bardeschi. The huge statue that bisects the central staircase and was originally intended to have the function of a fountain, represents the serpent Python against whom the god Apollo fought and won on the slopes of Mount Parnassus, a mountain near Delphi, on which, according to Greek mythology, the Muses lived.
