Walking in Vinci: Caterina's Route - trail n. 12c

The Metropolitan City of Florence
By walk & by bike

Trail n. 12C, Caterina's Route, starts from Piazza Leonardo Da Vinci, exactly fom the Androne Ciofi and leads to the village of San Pantaleo, where Leonardo's mother, Caterina, lived after her marriage with the Accattabriga. The trail is so called because this probably was the route that Caterina took to go and visit Leonardo, who lived with his father's family in Vinci.

Along the route you find:

  • The Androne Ciofi, an ancient passage from the hamlet to the countryside next to which is, still today, the building, once a tavern, that one of Leonardo's brothers, Giovanni, rented
  • A section of the old town mill , run by Leonardo's uncle, Francesco
  • Campo Zeppi, where Leonardo's mother, Caterina, lived after her wedding with the Accattabriga
  • The Church of San Pantaleo, FAI place of the heart, rebuilt in the early 19th century on a medieval church; it was the parish church of Leonardo's mother
