The castle has already been mentioned since the fourteenth century with chronicles which attribute the property to the Visdomini family, but only a few ruins had remained before its nineteenth-century restoration.
For long decades, the castle had remained uninhabited, until John Temple Leader discovered it and decided to rebuild it in neo-gothic style. The panoramic position and the legend of Bianca, a young bride who died of a broken heart because her groom was murdered, make this place a very romantic site.
