The Castle of Calenzano

Points of interest
Villas and castles

The Castle of Calenzano still retains the characteristic appearance of a fortified village, with an oval layout typical of hilltop towns, enclosed by walls. Visible from all four cardinal points, it overlooks the important communication routes that have connected the Florentine plain to Mugello since ancient times. The fortification was built by the Guidi counts, whose properties between the 10th and 12th centuries stretched from Casentino to Romagna, from Valdarno di Sopra to Empoli and Pistoia.

The castle houses the Municipal Museum of Historic Models, and ceremonies and events can be held on the roof terrace and the garden.
