Churches and places of worship

The church of San Francesco is located in Castelfiorentino, built in 1278, is one of the few churches in Romanesque-Gothic style that are part of the Valdelsa and in part of Tuscany; the Gothic language can be observed from the structure of the church, composed of a large nave with two smaller chapels placed in a symmetrical way, with cross vaults. The Romanesque style is instead found in the composition of the structure, that is the use of brick, the cruciform windows, the portal that is more external than the facade, or the decorated arches.

The external part of the structure of the church is high and narrow, where in length were extended the bricks in terracotta, while in the facade there are coats of arms in majolica or pietra serena of people who were buried inside the church from important families of Castelfiorentino.

Inside the church there are works by Cenni di Francesco, Giovanni del Biondo and many frescoes that were made by the Florentine school of the XV century, the part of the dome and the vault of the choir was decorated by Agostino Veracini and Pietro Anderlini in the XVIII century.
