The Gherardesca garden occupied the last green space before the ancient city walls.
The ancient garden had a masterly restoration by Pietro Porcinai. After having been at the centre of a radical new restoration, curated by Giorgio Galletti, today the structure houses a five-star hotel.
The Della Gherardesca palace appears in the list drawn up in 1901 by the General Direction of Antiquities and Fine Arts, as a monumental building to be considered national artistic heritage.
