Horticultural Garden
In 1854 the "Società Toscana d'Orticultura" (Tuscan Society of Horticulture) was constituted. In the second half of the 19th century the garden got larger; alongside the impressive collection of trees, it was enhanced by the imposing and elegant glass and iron greenhouse, the tepidarium designed by Giacomo Roster and inaugurated in 1880.
The little and elegant loggia "Bondi" by the architect Castellucci was built in 1911.
The Municipality of Florence bought the garden in 1930 and designated the area as a public park.
In 1990 an imaginative fountain depicting a snake was completed with decorations of different materials following the project of Marco Dezzi Bardeschi.
The Horticultural Garden is a green space for the neighbourhood, hosting a major exhibition of plants and flowers which takes place in its grounds and in the Tepidarium twice a year; there is also a well-equipped children’s play area within the garden.
The Horticultural Library, one of the municipal libraries, is also located within the park.
