The museum, housed in an Augustinian convent of the 15th Century in the centre of Certaldo Alto, occupies the area of the cloister of Saint Jacob and Saint Philip Church and its adjacent rooms. It collects works of art from the 11th century, vestments and goldsmith’s art from nearby local churches and a true masterpieces: a large wooden Crucifix depicting Christ triumphing over death, attributed to an anonymous Tuscan sculptor of the 13th century, a unique example of Italian medieval sculptural art.
