Porta Filicaia, originally known as the "Porta a Sieve", was renamed around the 16th century when it was rented to the Da Filicaia family.
This gate represented the access to the south of the ancient Castel Sant'Angelo built in 1357 by the Florentine Republic.
Today only the arch remains as part of the original gate.
