The wall on Via degli Alfani, now covered in fish graffito, was erected in 1964 to protect the Department of Literature and Philosophy at the University of Florence.
The wall had no artistic pretensions, but was purely functional, not least thanks to the bench at its base.
For some years now, an unknown artist has been embellishing it with drawings of little fish, which have become increasingly numerous; over time, numerous other anonymous artists have added their own fish designs.
The result today is a vast mural, a sea of fish swimming across the yellow-backed wall on Via degli Alfani.
