La notte di Isabella, Cerreto Guidi - Foto Toscana nel Cuore

Isabella's Night

Imagine you are in July 1576, in Cerreto Guidi, in the Empoli area: the village is celebrating the arrival of Duchess Isabella, the favourite daughter of Cosimo I, who is about to join her husband at the Medici villa.

‘Isabella’s Night’, on 4 and 5 July, brings those festive days back to life in an atmosphere that will transport you to a bygone era, within the walls of the village, amongst nobles and commoners, ladies and knights, Renaissance music and dancing, falconers, sword and crossbow displays, and fire and flag-waving performances.

A grand re-enactment that completely transforms Cerreto Guidi and its Medici villa. It is also a very sad story: on 16 July 1576, Isabella died in Cerreto under mysterious circumstances; you may therefore catch a whisper of the truth amidst the folk tales and legends that have been passed down for centuries.
