Dis/Enchanted Interiors at MAD - Murate Art District

Exhibitions

From May 14th to July 12th, 2026, Murate Art District hosts Dis/Enchanted Interiors, the first official solo exhibition in Italy by artist Anna Perach.

Developed by MAD and the Museum of Anthropology and Ethnology of Florence, the exhibition is conceived both as a retrospective of the artist’s work over the past decade and as a site-specific project exploring themes of colonialism, exoticism, folk traditions, identity, and femininity. Central themes include cultural migration and the deconstruction of stereotypes, explored through immersive environments and performances intertwining art, sound, and movement. On the occasion of the exhibition, Perach also presents two new works created specifically for the spaces of MAD.

The exhibition opening will take place at 4:30 PM at the Museum of Anthropology and Ethnology, from where the public will move towards MAD around 5:30 PM to attend the artist’s performance and visit the exhibition.

Exhibition at Mad - Murate Art District

Exhibitions

Anna Perach creates environments inhabited by sculptures using the weaving technique known as tufting, often employed in carpet-making. Her wearable sculptures exist in the space between object and “skin” and are activated through choreographed performances accompanied by sound.

The carpet, conceived as a domestic symbol that has accompanied the artist’s journeys since the beginning of her career, becomes a catalyst for a series of reflections on cultural migration.

Exhibition at the Museum of Anthropology and Ethnology

Exhibitions

The work presented at the Museum of Anthropology and Ethnology consists of postcards reproducing photographs of the interiors of Perach’s childhood home. In relation to the context of the Museum of Anthropology and the nature of its collections, the artist deliberately chooses not to integrate the work into the exhibition path. Positioned at the entrance, it remains in a liminal space, on the threshold, without becoming part of the collection: a conscious decision intended to avoid any form of exoticization, which the artist perceives as problematic.

Placed outside the museum galleries, Perach’s intervention thus takes shape as a critical distancing from the colonial framework that has historically informed Western museological practices, as well as the gaze directed toward the private sphere.
