Oceani - David Doubilet

Oceans - David Doubilet at Villa Bardini

Exhibitions

From 21 October 2025 to 12 April 2026 Villa Bardini in Florence is hosting the Italian premiere of Oceani, an exhibition of the work of David Doubilet (New York, 1946), one of the world's most renownednature photographers.

For over half a century, Doubilet has been exploring the Earth's oceans. He has been working with National Geographic since 1971 and is still active today at the age of 79. He has become an international reference point in the field of underwater photography. His photographs combine aesthetics, science and storytelling, and this is partly thanks to his invention of the over/under technique, which involves shooting simultaneously above and below the water's surface.

The exhibition is promoted by Fondazione CR Firenze and Gallerie d'Italia – Intesa Sanpaolo, in collaboration with National Geographic.

Oceans- David Doubilet at Villa Bardini

Exhibitions

Inspired by Jacques-Yves Cousteau, Doubilet, together with his wife Jennifer Hayes, a marine biologist and underwater photographer herself, carries out work that lies halfway between reportage and popularization. The selected photographs, over eighty in number, document the beauty of the seas, but also the growing fragility of certain areas, now at risk of irreversible loss.
