The Flower Season! Garden Openings and Floral Exhibitions

Spring has fully blossomed, and in Florence—the lily city par excellence—visitors come not only for its renowned works of art, but also to experience gardens in full bloom. It’s no coincidence that Botticelli found inspiration...! Here are the main flower-related events and places of interest to mark on your list:

1. The Wisteria Pergola at Villa Bardini

Among the most iconic and spectacular spots is undoubtedly Villa Bardini Villa Bardini. A villa surrounded by a large park, whose irresistible attraction in this season is the wisteria pergola. A true star (also on Instagram), the wisteria plant that clings to the pergola above the driveway leading to the belvedere is a sensory immersion in colour and scent.

2. Opening of the Iris Garden

The Iris Garden, located just below Piazzale Michelangelo, also opens to the public on 25 April. The garden is home to numerous prestigious varieties of irises, which also compete for a prize in the International Iris Competition. The garden, which offers stunning views of the city due to its location, is free of charge and remains open until 20 May.

3. The Rose Garden

And how can we forget the Rose Gardenwith its iconic sculptures by Jean-Michel Folon? Mirroring the Iris Garden (one to the right of Piazzale Michelangelo, the other to the left), it is a public park open all year round, but spring is of course the time of maximum splendour. Absolutely not to be missed for an immersion in beauty!

4. Plant and Flower Exhibition – Horticulture Garden

The Spring Plant and Flower Market Exhibition takes place, as usual, in the charming Giardino dell'Orticoltura (Via Vittorio Emanuele II, 17) from April 25 to May 1. More than 50 specialized exhibitors offer a wide range of products related to floriculture, horticulture, and fruit growing, along with crafts and decorative items. Admission is free.

5. Camellia Garden - Stibbert Museum

What better opportunity to visit one of Florence's most unique and unconventional museums? The Stibbert Museum, just a tram ride away, was founded thanks to the legacy of collector Frederick Stibbert. It boasts the largest collection of armor in Europe and is located in the park of the same name. Starting March 13th, a new camellia garden, located in front of the library, is dedicated to Stibbert's beloved flower.

6. 9th Edition of Wander and Pick – All Around Florence

The spring event Wander and Pick was founded nine years ago by the Tribù della Terra, with the aim of enhancing urban green spaces through floriculture, creating widespread gardens and experimenting with sustainable and organic cultivation methods. Visitors can freely explore floral labyrinths made up of around 90,000 tulips—across 40 varieties—alongside about ten varieties of daffodils. With a donation, it is possible to take home stems and bulbs. The suggested contribution is at least €1 per flower and €0.50 per bulb.
