Anniversary of the death of Filippo Brunelleschi

Thursday, April 16th, 2026, in the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, the anniversary of the death of Filippo Brunelleschi (which occurred during the night between April 15th and 16th, 1446) will be commemorated.

A historicalparade, accompanied by horses, will depart at 3:00 PM from the Palagio di Parte Guelfa and, passing through Via Pellicceria, Piazza della Repubblica, Via degli Speziali, and Via Calzaiuoli, will reach Piazza della Signoria. From here, after the customary greetings, it will continue along Via Calzaiuoli and conclude in Piazza del Duomo.

After entering the Cathedral and the crypt, the parade will set off again at 3:45 PM toward the Palagio di Parte Guelfa, retracing its route along Via Calzaiuoli, Via degli Speziali, Piazza della Repubblica, and Via Pellicceria.

3:30 PM – Formal greeting announced by voice in front of the gate of Palazzo Vecchio and meeting with the Gonfalone

3:45 PM – The parade, together with the Gonfalone and authorities, proceeds toward the Cathedral

4:00 PM – Formal greeting announced by voice from the Cathedral forecourt

4:15 PM – Entrance into the Cathedral, in the area facing the Tondo del Buggiano, of the parade and invited guests

4:30 PM – Prayer led by Monsignor Giancarlo Corti, with possible greetings from the attending authorities

5:00 PM – Laying of a myrtle wreath offered by the Associazione Filippo di ser Brunellesco and a laurel wreath by the Municipality on Brunelleschi’s tomb

5:15 PM – One minute of silence

5:30 PM – Conclusion marked by the sound of the ceremonial trumpets (Chiarine) of the Municipality of Florence
