Chianti and flavour: unmissable events for fine wine lovers

The birthplace par excellence of Chianti classico wine is where the most important events take place. It begins in May, in the hamlet of Montefioralle, with “I Vini nel Castello”, a food and wine festival with producers' stands set up in the picturesque streets of the hamlet and on the main square. The most anticipated events are anyway held in summer. At the end of August, the hamlet of Lamole hosts “Lamole sotto le stelle”, with Chianti tastings joining the starry sky observation. Unmissable, finally, is the event on the second weekend of September, that is Expo Chianti Classico, the event par excellence for Chianti Classico wine lovers: on the main square of the village, exhibitions and concerts provide the backdrop to a tasting itinerary that allows to discover Chianti Classico in its production area.

Radda opens the season dedicated to wine in the Chianti area at the end of March, with “Chianti Ultra Wine”, on the occasion of Chianti UltraTrail, an event combining sport and flavours. During the race weekend there are also tastings at the Casa del Chianti Classico, with guided visits to the “Museo Sensoriale del Vino Chianti Classico”. The event in September is instead “Radda nel bicchiere", an occasion to taste local typical wines, exploring local producers' stands on the streets of the village, among history, culture and good food.

The adorable hamlet of Castelnuovo Berardenga hosts in June “Castelnovino”, an event offering the opportunity to taste local wines and typical products in the wonderful setting of Villa Chigi Saracini. On the occasion of the grape harvest instead, you cannot miss the “Festa dell’uva” in Vagliagli: an occasion where wine takes the lead in a scenery of traditions, customs and allegorical floats.

Pentecost in Castellina in Chianti is the main wine-themed celebration. Promoted by the Associazione Viticoltori di Castellina in Chianti, the event features themed tastings and dinners, through the streets of the medieval hamlet.

Sport and flavours come together in another annual event, the “Chianti classico Marathon” in San Casciano Val di Pesa. During the race weekend you can in fact take part in wine tastings in local farms. In autumn instead the event is the Festa della Vendemmia (grape harvest celebration), in Mercatale Val di Pesa.

Tasting a fine Chianti wine under a starry sky, admiring its constellations: this is what you can do in Barberino Tavarnelle during “Calici sotto le stelle”, an initiative promoted by the Movimento del vino in the month of August. Joining the event in the Chianti area, in addition to Barberino Tavarnelle, are also the Municipalities of Castellina in Chianti and Castelnuovo Berardenga.
