A grand opening ceremony takes place on 3 June for the Città dei Lettori, Florence’s literature festival, which is celebrating its ninth edition. Emmanuel Carrère has been chosen to open the festival at the Teatro della Pergola, whilst subsequent events will, as always, be held at Villa Bardini until 7 June. La Città dei Lettori is an open festival, free of charge upon booking, held in an extraordinary, panoramic setting, where established authors and newcomers take turns giving readings, talks and presentations. 75 guests are expected to attend 40 different events. In addition to Carrère, the finalists of the Strega Literary Prize will be in attendance; themes will range from Pinocchio on the bicentenary of Collodi’s birth, to sport, and the 1966 Florence flood.
