30th November, the Feast of Tuscany
30 November is an important date for this region.
It marks the Festa della Toscana, a day on which, in 1786, the death penalty was abolished in the Grand Duchy on the initiative of the sovereign Peter Leopold of Lorraine. It was the first time ever that a state had reformed its criminal code in this way.
A major civic and cultural celebration, commemorated at an institutional level by the Region of Tuscany, but with cultural initiatives designed for citizens and visitors alike. The 2025 edition is inspired by the theme Tuscany, a bridge for peace.
The city's main cultural institutions are offering themed events, which can be viewed on the regional portal.

And as you walk around the city, you will see posters with the image of Pietro Leopoldo, with his unmistakable 18th-century style, an enlightened ruler, a great reformer, an important figure for Tuscany and the whole of Italy.
