Live Music: Major Festivals and Concerts from May to September

From Ludovico Einaudi to Lenny Kravitz, Ben Harper, and Paul Kalkbrenner: the 2026 music calendar in the Florence area features world-class names and spans a wide range of genres. Grab a pen and paper and pick your favorites!

Maggio Musicale Fiorentino

Florence’s live music scene always kicks off with the renowned Maggio Musicale Fiorentino (May Musical Festival in Florence), the oldest and most prestigious opera and classical music festival in Italy. This year marks its 88th edition, with an outstanding program of major concerts, starting exceptionally with the only Italian stop of Ludovico Einaudi’s European tour on May 20 and 21. The festival concludes with a monumental complete performance of Beethoven’s nine symphonies conducted by Daniele Gatti, from June 18 to July 1.

June with Firenze Rocks and the Summer Festivals

Firenze Rocks is Florence’s biggest music event; its top-tier international scope attracts hundreds of thousands of spectators every year. The 2026 edition takes place, as always, at the Visarno Arena from June 12 to 14, featuring Lenny Kravitz, Robbie Williams, The Cure, and many more.

June also marks the beginning of the Estate Fiorentina (Florentine Summer) festivals: Sagrati in Musica(June to September), a free series in the city’s iconic locations with classical music and high-quality concerts; Secret Florence, a multidisciplinary festival in unusual venues; and the Florence Dance Performing Arts Festival, the city’s most prestigious and long-running dance festival (36th edition), held in the main cloister of Santa Maria Novella.

Moving to the hills, on June 16 the 79th edition of Estate Fiesolana opens in the stunning Roman Theatre of Fiesole. Music, dance, and theatre await, with many artists on the program—including Cristiano De André, Joan Thiele, and Xavier Rudd—in an exceptionally evocative cultural setting. The festival runs until the end of August.

July with MusArt Festival

Another major music event in the Florence area is the MusArt Festival, now in its 11th edition. The venue remains the spectacular Medici Park of Pratolino, just a few minutes from Florence. Note: for the first time, the festival opens in late June with the highly anticipated concert by Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals on Sunday, June 28. The rest of the program takes place in July as tradition dictates, featuring many artists including Mannarino, Claudio Baglioni, Elio e le Storie Tese, and more.

In the city, Estate Fiorentina also hosts Festival Au Désert, a weekend celebrating musical cultures and traditions from Africa, the Mediterranean, and Europe.

August with Beat Festival

During the last weekend of August and the first of September, the music moves to Empoli for the 12th Beat Festival. Held in Parco di Serravalle, the festival attracts large crowds and features high-profile guests—such as Edoardo Bennato, Sayf, Naska, and others for 2026—along with a vibrant atmosphere including street food, artisan markets, and plenty of entertainment for all ages.

September with Jazz, Electronic Music, and Culture

September is packed with music. Estate Fiorentina closes with the Firenze Jazz Festival, a must for jazz lovers and newcomers alike, with over 20 concerts across cultural venues in the Oltrarno district—squares, historic residences, and exclusive locations. Genius Loci: Discovering Santa Croce offers performances, concerts, and talks to explore the Monumental Complex of Santa Croce in an engaging and immersive way. Meanwhile, the Lattexplus Festival takes place at the Teatro del Maggio, where the realm of classical music opens its doors to leading figures of the electronic scene. Shifting to hard techno, techno, and tech house, Decibel Open Air 2026 confirms its presence at Parco delle Cascine from September 4 to 6, featuring Paul Kalkbrenner and many other international artists.
