Changes, performed on May 8 and 9, 2026 at the Teatro della Pergola, is a comedy directed by Thomas Ostermeier and written by Maja Zade.
The play follows a day in the life of Nina and Mark, a couple who have been together for over twenty years: she is a politician working to save a dilapidated women’s shelter, while he is a former successful corporate lawyer recovering from burnout and trying to find his place as an elementary school teacher.
Throughout the day, as they face different challenges and interact with various people—played by the same two actors in multiple roles—the story explores the difficulty of balancing ideals, work, and personal life. When they reunite in the evening, their experiences have transformed both of them and their relationship, highlighting how hard it is to change the world without losing oneself.
Show in German with Italian and English surtitles.
