A new public park in Florence’s District 4, the Santa Maria Park, is situated at Mantignano on the site of a former municipal nursery covering over 5 hectares, which had long been abandoned and inaccessible.
Now fully restored, it also serves as a vital ecological corridor between the Greve and the Arno.
A park just a stone’s throw from the 1929 aqueduct, which was spared from the wrath of the retreating Nazis during the Second World War.
The restoration was carried out with particular attention to the environment, featuring 100% permeable surfaces and entirely natural materials, as well as picnic areas and benches. An accessible park with dedicated paths and an inclusive rest area at the entrance for people with disabilities
Protected wildlife sanctuaries, with wooded areas left untouched to allow the park’s flora and fauna to thrive.
