Scandicci 2

Scandicci, contemporary soul

All around Florence! Scandicci embodies the innovative and contemporary spirit of the region and the Florence metropolitan area.
Situated to the south-west of Florence and connected by the T1 tram line, it has become, following the creation of the Villa Costanza hub, a destination for visitors from all over the world.

Its territory is equally divided between a production plain and a hilly area of breathtaking beauty. Whilst, on the one hand, it can be regarded as a global hub for leather goods and haute couture – given that it is home to the factories and production centres of prestigious luxury brands – on the other hand, the hills, with their vineyards and dotted with historic villas, bear witness to its former agricultural heritage; today, the area is predominantly focused on tourism and hospitality, with a particular emphasis on outdoor activities.

In Scandicci, cultural life is vibrant, thanks to the theatres and festivals, as is social life, with well-attended events and fairs, foremost among which is the Scandicci Fair in October.

What to see in Scandicci

There are numerous artistic and historical treasures: the thousand-year-old Abbey of San Lorenzo and San Giuliano in Settimo; the Castello dell’Acciaiolo, just a stone’s throw from the town centre; the ancient parish churches; the pre-industrial site of Mulinaccio; Villa Castelpulci, now home to the Scuola Superiore della Magistratura; and the Renaissance villas of the great noble families that dot the hills.

Among the areas of outstanding natural beauty is the Poggio Valicaia Park, a vast expanse of farmland and woodland, where it is easy to come across works of art by contemporary artists.

Hiking and walking routes to Scandicci

This area is a must-visit for anyone who loves hiking, with 70 km of hiking trails through the hills, various links to the trail networks of Lastra a Signa, Montelupo, San Casciano Val di Pesa and Montespertoli, and numerous mountain-bike trails.

Among the walking routes that pass through here, the Renaissance Ring Road is particularly worth mentioning;See the map of all the walking routes in the Florence area.
