June 2026 in Florence and its surroundings
Florence Rocks, Calcio Storico, San Giovanni, Street Arts and Enchanted Gardens: June is truly a special month for anyone visiting the Florentine Area
June Traditions
June is undoubtedly one of the most iconic months for the city of Florence, as on June 24 the city celebrates San Giovanni – the patron saint of Florence – alongside the final match of the historic Calcio Storico Fiorentino tournament. The day begins at 9 a.m. with the performance of the Flag Throwers of the Uffizi in Piazza della Signoria, followed by the ceremonial procession for the Offering of the Candles to Piazza Duomo.
The afternoon is packed with adrenaline, sport, and neighborhood rivalry, starting with the traditional Arno regatta at 5 p.m. in front of the Società dei Canottieri, located along the riverbank beneath the Uffizi Gallery, and continuing at 6 p.m. with the glorious final of the ancient football game in Renaissance costume. Two of Florence’s historic teams – Whites, Reds, Blues, or Greens – compete in the arena of Piazza Santa Croce.
But the excitement is not over yet! At 10 p.m., don’t miss the traditional “Fochi” di San Giovanni fireworks display, Florence’s only fireworks show of the entire year. Arrive early to secure a spot along Lungarno della Zecca or on one of the bridges, and look up toward Piazzale Michelangelo.
