When the heat hits...

During this period of high temperatures, especially in Florence, here are some tips to help you make the most of your stay.

Exploring the Forests

There aren’t just hills around Florence — there are also mountains crowned by beautiful forests! Discover all the details about Monte Morello, Monte Senario, the Vallombrosa Forest, and the Casentinesi Forests National Park in our article on Florence’s forests.

Take a Dip...

You can escape the heat without leaving the city by taking a dip in one of Florence's outdoor swimming pools
You can also enjoy a refreshing swim in the areas surrounding our city, such as at  Renai Park (in Signa, well-connected to Parco delle Cascine via a bike path) or at the beach resorts on Lake Bilancino.

Exploring (Medici) Villas

Another idea is to visit the Medici villas and gardens in the immediate vicinity of Florence:  Petraia and Castello and, in particular, the Medici Park of Pratolino;
the latter, in fact, thanks to a number of factors  - higher
altitude, the park’s size, and a rich calendar of activities including
evening events, easy reachable by Bus (25A) - is a truly ideal spot!

For those staying in the city

At this time of year, the city is best enjoyed in the evening, thanks in part to the packed calendar of events for the Florentine Summer and its many outdoor venues where you can enjoy a nice drink in relatively cooler settings.
We’d also like to point out that, given the particularly high temperatures this summer, the City of Florence has published a map of “Climate Refuges” (cool areas and libraries) throughout the city.

All Around Florence

Escape the city heat by exploring our region, all around Florence, perhaps taking advantage of the rich lineup of events… Finally, always remember that  there is a world to discover! Here, finally, is a more general alternative suggestion!
