Discover Sala Vanni

Special Openings, tours and workshops

From June 7 to August 31, Sala Vanni will be exceptionally open to visitors as part of the Brancacci Chapel tour within the Santa Maria del Carmine complex.

Thanks to a collaboration with the Musicus Concentus Association, visitors will be able to enjoy free access to Sala Vanni throughout the summer in conjunction with their visit to the Brancacci Chapel.

Originally the main refectory of the Carmine convent, Sala Vanni takes its name from Giovan Battista Vanni, the artist who painted the monumental fresco Christ Dining in the House of Simon the Pharisee, a masterpiece of 17th-century decoration that still dominates the hall today.

The tour also offers the opportunity to admire an important group of detached frescoes from the Chapel of the Passion, also known as the Nerli Chapel, attributed to Lippo d'Andrea and dating to around 1402. Highlights include the Crucifixion and its preparatory sinopia, the Flagellation of Christ, remnants of a Last Supper, and several figures of saints, among them the remarkable Saint Cyril.
