St Francis of Assisi and Giuseppe Nicola Nasini. An episode of Medici patronage

To celebrate the 800th anniversary of the death of St Francis of Assisi, Palazzo Medici Riccardi brings back to Florence, more than three centuries after their creation, four large canvases by Giuseppe Nicola Nasini dedicated to the life of the saint, retracing the history of Cosimo III de’ Medici’s devotion and patronage whilst also focusing on the figure of Giuseppe Nicola Nasini, his privileged relationship with the grand ducal court and the unique intertwining of Medici and Riccardi patronage in late 17th-century Florence.

From 24 September 2026 to 31 January 2027, the Fabiani Rooms at Palazzo Medici Riccardi will host ‘St Francis of Assisi and Giuseppe Nicola Nasini. An Episode of Medici Patronage’, an exhibition promoted by the Metropolitan City of Florence, organised by the MUS.E Foundation and curated by Riccardo Spinelli, under the patronage of the National Committee for the Celebration of the 800th Anniversary of the Death of St Francis of Assisi, the Papal Basilica and Sacred Convent of St Francis in Assisi, and the Friars Minor Conventual of the Basilica of Santa Croce in Florence.
