By bus and tram

Local transportation in Florence includes buses and trams. The bus network is widespread, whereas the tramway network is still developing.

The tramway network at the moment includes 2 tram lines T1 and T2: T1 Leonardo connects the parking of Villa Costanza in Scandicci (suburb of the city) to the central train station "Firenze Santa Maria Novella", and continuing towards the area of Careggi. A second tram line, T2 Vespucci, connects SMN Central train station to the Vespucci Airport of Florence. In both cases passages every 5', approximately 20 minutes rides. For information visit the Tramway official website.

Public bus transportation in Florence and Tuscany is managed by Autolinee Toscane.  Check the map of all lines, including the small electric buses (C1,C2,C3) connecting several areas of the historical centre. We suggest you to download the useful App At-Bus (Android and IOS, Italian/English version)! With the App you can plan your trip, save places, stops and lines, check the status of services and buy all types tickets and passes.

The urban ticket, valid both for buses and tramway, costs € 1,70 and is valid 90 minutes. You can buy the tickets at: "Tabacchi" shops, newsstands, automatic machines at tramway stops, AT-official ticket office (via Santa Caterina da Siena, a few minutes walk from SMN Train Station); even sending a SMS (only with Italian Sim Card Tim, Vodafone, Windtre) texting “Firenze” to the following number 4880105 (€ 2,00 + sms cost). 

A valid ticket is required before boarding, even if purchased via app or SMS. Don’t forget to validate paper and digital tickets as soon as you get board.

Some city buses reach the main tourist destinations in the proximity of Florence: Fiesole: 7; Piazzale Michelangelo: 13; Certosa del Galluzzo: 37; Medici Park of Pratolino (Villa Demidoff): 25A; Settignano: 10.
